About Me

Meet Jane Evans

During college, I lived in a small, old house. My roommates and I loved it's cozy charm and, for the most part, didn't have any problems. However, one day, we noticed that the carpet in one of the bedrooms was wet--and it couldn't be dried. When we called our landlady and the repairman, they discovered that the shower not only needed to be re-caulked, but there was mold everywhere under the carpet. We had to move out for two weeks while they fixed the problem. Soon, thanks to the contractor (the likes of whom you can read about), we were back at home.

4 Valuable Roof Care Tips for Homeowners

Taking care of your roof is one of the most practical things that you can do for yourself when you want your home to protected, both structurally and as a long-term investment into your life. When you want to be sure that your roof is well taken care of, you will need to learn some vital tips that will make sure that your roof will last for the long haul.

If you don't know where to get started, read some of the following tips. These guidelines will assist you greatly and will allow you to reap the benefits for your home.

#1: Routinely Inspect Your Roof For Damages And Weaknesses

The best thing that you as a homeowner can do for your home is make sure that you give your roof a visual inspection whenever possible. An easy way to remember this is to check out your roof any time that you are about to clean your gutters.

When checking the roof, you should look for things like mold and algae, which can weaken the roof and cause health issues, animal damage, which can create huge encumbrances and leaks, and curled or missing shingles, which can compromise the structural integrity of your roof. If you experience any of these issues, pick up the phone and call a roofing contractor like Karbella Construction.

#2: Clean Your Gutters Seasonally

A practical way to safeguard your roof is to clean out your gutters as the seasons change. The reason for this is that when leaves and debris get stuck in your gutters, precipitation will build up and cause water damage. Not only will this water damage soften your shingles and lead to mold, it will also create roof leaks that can create issues inside of your home. Get up on the roof and clean your gutters, so that you can avoid this preventable issue.

#3: Be Gentle on Your Roof

While you are responsible for some roof maintenance, you need to be sure that you treat your roof components with care. For instance, avoid power washing shingles and walking on your roof, because this can lead to damage that is expensive and detrimental to your roof. When in doubt, allow a professional to handle these sorts of jobs, since they have the experience and instruments to handle your roof with care.

#4: Get An Annual Professional Inspection

To truly look after your roof, you should call in a licensed and insured roofing contractor to provide you with an inspection. Getting an annual roof inspection will allow you to keep your roof longer and in the best condition throughout the duration of ownership. Further, these roof inspectors will also be able to fix any issues on the spot, so that you have the peace of mind of knowing that your roof will remain intact and fortified.

Follow these tips, so that you're able to look after your roof through the years and protect it as the valuable investment that it is.
